I know, we all say “where did the year go?” But SERIOUSLY, where did the year go?
At the start of every year I map out my goals for the year and every few months I throw a glance over them. Now it’s time to dust them off and see what actually got done.
Some happened, some didn’t. Most that didn’t I’m ok with, they were dumb anyway. Deadlines went over but hey, as long as the job got done right? Better late than never.
2017 was the year we finally launched B Directory and the year that I learnt what it really means to chase your dreams. And let me tell you it’s not all it’s cracked up to be (chasing your dreams that is, B Directory is awesome). This is the year I felt fear, proper real fear for the first time.
In all my past endeavours, including starting my own business at 25, I’ve always felt extreme confidence and an inner calm and knowing that “I got this”. Growing a business has been somewhat of a no brainer to me (hey, you have to be good at something). But for some reason B Directory was different.
Perhaps it’s the fact 4 small people have entered my world, perhaps its because no one was really doing it or perhaps I’ve just gotten soft. Regardless, I felt the fear of being judged, the fear of failing and the fear of being exposed as an imposter. Putting yourself out there and throwing your whole heart behind something is TOUGH. Really really tough.
BUT! Punching that fear in the face, sucking it up and doing it anyway is the best feeling in the world. This year has been a huge journey and I’ve learnt so much. I am overwhelmed with the support of our friends and family when we acted completely emotional and yes, irrational at times, and I’m eternally grateful for the brands and bloggers that jumped on board without hesitation and put their trust in us.
So a massive thank you to you all, you know who you are. From the bottom of our hearts we started BD to help small businesses (and bloggers) grow and find success. We look forward to living this dream in 2018 with some big and exciting projects on the horizon. Stay tuned.

Elsa Mitchell is the co-founder of B Directory, providing outside of the box solutions for small business, to help supercharge their growth.
